There are cancer cells in a duct in the breast. There is no spreading to nearby tissues
Stage I
Cancer only in the breast is 2 cm or less. The lymph nodes remain clear
Stage IIA
There is no tumor in the breast, but there are cancer cells in the underarm lymph nodes
Stage IIB
The tumor is between 2 cm and 5 cm and has spread to underarm lymph nodes OR tumor is over 5 cm but hasn't spread to underarm lymph nodes
Stage IIIA
No tumor in breast, but cancer is in lymph nodes and are sticking to other objects or cancer is found near breastbone
Stage IIIB
Tumor is any size and has spread to breast skin and wall of chest AND might have gone to axillary lymph nodes and sticking together and on other structures, or breastbone lymph nodes have been found to have cancer
Stage IIIC
Either no sign of cancer in breast or any size of a tumor is spreading to breast skin and chest wall AND cancer is in collarbone lymph nodes AND cancer has spread to axillary lymph nodes and breastbone lymph nodes
